Brooker Creek PreserveBrooker Creek Preserve is approximately 8,700 acres, and the largest natural area in Pinellas County. It consists primarily of forested wetlands and pine flatwoods. Bordered by dense urban development, the Preserve provides both a unique refuge for native flora and fauna, as well as an opportunity for citizens to explore the natural beauty of wild Florida. The Preserve also serves to protect a significant portion of the Brooker Creek Watershed. A complex of hiking and equestrian trails provide visitors an opportunity to explore the Preserve's many ecosystems.

EVERY Thursday 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.Book Time at Brooker: Connect children to the wonders of the natural world through a nature related story & a craft to follow! Geared toward 3- to 5-year-olds, meet inside the Exhibit Hall! Registration is not required for Book Time, just show up with your kiddo! This program is led by Brooker Creek Volunteers.
Friday, September 5 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.YourSELF in Bloom: Storytime Enjoy a turtle-themed storytime that focuses on developing children's social and emotional competencies through engaging stories, crafts, and activities. This interactive program is intended for children ages 3-6 with a caretaker. This unique opportunity is presented by the Zero Suicide Partners of Pinellas, and hosted by the Brooker Creek Preserve.
Sunday, September 7 8:00 - 9:30 a.m.Bird Hike: Come out for this "early morning" walk in the woods to seek out the resident and visiting birds of Brooker. All levels of birders welcome. Meet in the main parking lot at 8am.
Thursday, September 11 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.Dragonfly Discovery Walk: Join local dragonfly expert Paul Trunk as we explore some of the habitats at Brooker Creek looking for dragonflies. Brooker Creek Preserve is an excellent area that is home to approximately 20+ species of odonates. We will learn about the natural history of dragonflies and their importance to a healthy ecosystem. Bring your binoculars and a camera if you enjoy taking pictures. Registration is required.
Saturday, September 13 9:00 - 12:00 p.m.Parks for Pollinators Bio Blitz @ Largo Nature Preserve: At this event we will learn and practice making observations of pollinators and the flowers they are visiting. Observations made at this event with the iNaturalist phone app will be added to a national database that tracks the health of pollinators across the country. Meet local naturalists, learn how to use the iNaturalist app, and explore the trails to make your first observations with experts on hand! Educators from the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center and the City of Largo Parks Department will be on hand to get you started at this BioBlitz. Then, participants are invited to continue making observations for the month of September in any park in Pinellas County!
Saturday, September 13 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.Connect to Nature Guided Walk: An escape to rejuvenate and connect with Mother Nature (a cradle for wilderness). Take an extra step with Anu (our new volunteer) to learn about habitat restoration and our resident species at BCP. Share some of your stories as a nature lover. This is a family friendly hike. We cover a loop of 0.75 mile trail observing the unique habitats of Brooker Creek.

Saturday, September 20 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.Hidden Wonders Nature Walk: This family-friendly nature hike will take you on an exploration of the wet and dry habitats of "Our Wildest Place." We will investigate some interesting plants and animals that call Brooker Creek Preserve home. Everyday reveals new natural wonders to enjoy, join us!

Saturday, September 20 10:30 - 12:00 p.m.Gopher Tortoises + Prescribed Fire = Increased Biodiversity: Brooker Creek Preserve is home to one of Pinellas County’s largest populations of gopher tortoises, a threatened, burrowing species which occurs in upland habitats. Learn about the significant ecological role played by this keystone species. Find out how habitat restoration, including the use of prescribed fire, can greatly benefit plant and animal communities. This PowerPoint program is recommended for adults and children 7+
Sunday, September 21 9:00 - 1:00 p.m.Off the Beaten Path: Fall Sandhill Hike Come join fellow hikers to discover the only true sandhill within Brooker Creek Preserve. At this time of year, the site will be flush with wildflowers. The hike is led by Dr. Craig Huegel who is well versed in local plants and animals. This hike is located off-site of typical Brooker Creek Preserve hikes, and everyone MUST register first in order to obtain a location map for parking. The hike is capped at 20 people. The hike occurs rain or shine. The hike is less than two miles in length with many stops. Participants must wear long pants and close-toed shoes. This hike is for hardy hikers only.
